Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 20, 2026
This policy explains how Background Clips ("we", "us") processes personal data when you use backgroundclips.app, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact: [email protected].
1. Data we collect
- Account data — email address, name (if provided) and a hashed password, or your Google account identifier if you sign in with Google.
- Billing data — subscription status and Stripe customer/subscription identifiers. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe, never by us.
- Usage data — projects, render jobs, export counts and plan limits, used to operate the Service.
- Uploaded clips — videos you upload for compositing are stored temporarily, used only to render your export, and deleted after processing.
- Technical data — IP address and request logs for security and rate limiting.
2. Purposes and legal bases
- Providing the Service (accounts, rendering, downloads) — performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Billing and tax compliance — legal obligation and contract (Art. 6(1)(b), (c)).
- Security, abuse prevention and rate limiting — legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Service emails (receipts, important account notices) — contract. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
3. Processors and recipients
We share data only with processors needed to run the Service: Stripe (payments), Google (if you use Google sign-in), our hosting provider and our object-storage provider (rendered exports and temporary uploads). Each processor is bound by a data-processing agreement. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, transfers rely on adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.
4. Retention
- Account data — until you delete your account.
- Uploaded clips — deleted after your render completes.
- Rendered exports — kept so you can re-download them; deleted when you delete the project or your account.
- Invoicing records — as long as tax law requires.
5. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any right, email [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in Spain, the AEPD — www.aepd.es).
6. Cookies
We use only cookies that are strictly necessary to operate the Service (session and authentication). See the Cookie Policy for details.
7. Changes
We will announce material changes to this policy on the site or by email before they take effect.
